★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills:

Waver is a third rate mage, and nothing if not an academic. His skills include:

- General academic and skills of writing, researching, and organizing data

- General skills of a normal adult human circa 1996. This includes knowing how to handle the technology of the era (like early computers and cell phones) and possessing a driver's license.

- He has read enough detective fiction to have a basic grasp of logic and deductive reasoning a la Sherlock Holmes.

- Despite everything, he can survive backpacking and can prepare for a disaster, although he prefers to stay in inns if he can help it.

- Also despite everything, he knows enough of the basics of mechanics and engineering to if a boost of mana could temporarily remedy the problem and where to direct it to get equipment operational enough to go a few extra miles.

Otherwise...

- He is trained in both the practical and magical applications of herbalism and alchemy-- that is, knowing how to utilize herbal remedies for mundane matters like a cough and knowing the connections from alchemy to chemistry and how to not gas people out of a building.

Canon Abilities:

As stated above, Waver is a third rate mage. This means his actual magic capabilities are limited compared to his peers. That said, his abilities include:

- A limited degree of hypnosis, although a strong enough will save will break through the spell

- Ability to manipulate his own mana and the mana of the surrounding areas well enough to redirect or siphon energies in a limited capacity. This includes both his ability to spark an engine into ignition long enough to reach its destination and his newfound habit of storing excess mana in his own hair to thwart attacks. With a focus point, he is also able to disrupt leylines enough to ruin a spell.

Role: Familiar

Role Qualities/Attributes: What will they manifest as this role?

Role Reasoning:I am picking this role in part because so much of Waver Velvet's role in the world is highly dependent on who the person narrating is at any point in time. He can be a brilliant young man with a keen eye for research and analysis that could sharply change his own trajectory in life if given half a chance, OR he's a crafty upstart with a very outspoken manner who is the worst kind of mage because of his willingness to break with tradition and his ability to analyze away the mysteries of magic within a short time. Furthermore, this rationality he has also is what enables him to occupy the neutral mentor role for many people in his life-- and also what allows him to engage in his out-of-the-box thinking that encourages attacking a locked door by the hinges instead of the lock itself. Also, this is the role that encourages forming partnerships-- and Waver in every iteration of his story is rarely alone.

★ Personality ★

Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:
Option 1. Summarize your character's personality in general and what their full potential would look like to them and what they would be willing to go through to meet that potential and what gaining that potential would mean to them. 400-800 word requirement. Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.
OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:
  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them? Losing Iskandar at the end of the Fate/Zero literally defined the rest of his life
  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?
  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story? I headcanon that Waver is a Gay Demi-Ace, and there was that fantastic theory on Tumblr about him being some manner of intersex that EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.
  • What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?
  • What are your characters dreams and nightmares? Do you believe they are more likely to obtain one rather than the other?
  • If you could give your character a Taylor Swift playlist, which songs would be on it and what would they represent about your character?
  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise. Here is where I go in depth about Waver's problems with his inability to accept himself as he is because he is clinging to the standard. He will never be a Great Magus because he is.... effectively disabled in comparison to his peers. This does NOT impact his ability to teach, and his lack of ability in one area is what drives him to push so hard that he defied any and every social limit put in place before him.
  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?
  • If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not? He wouldn't change his past. Iskandar's philosophy left an indelible mark on Waver, and to change that which he regrets is to deny the experiences that he lived through and shared with others.
  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?
  • What famous folklore, legend, or myth would you associate your character with? Are they literally inspired by Snow White? Do they have similar struggles or energy as Red Riding Hood? ODYSSEUS. And, later, Chiron.

  • Which Taylor Swift era is your character going through right now and why?
  • What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it?
