Hi. I realize the timing on this is staggering, but do you still have my soup thermos?
[Definitely not, as Palamedes is looking at it sitting on his kitchen counter, but it's not technically lying to ask a question he knows the answer to, and this is as sly a way as any to bother someone about whether or not they are still, ah, super sad about things.]
[The timing was staggering-- for Waver had gotten his hands on a nimble looking silver blade that he currently had on the floor of his apartment, his meager furniture and belongings roughly shoved out of the way for an elaborate chalk thaumaturgical circle around it.
Pay no mind to the chittering rats he had in a cage. They're safe.
For now.]
Palamedes.
I know I wasn't in my right mind, but I'd remember taking your thermos. It's not here.
[The scene is a very quick one, though a lot happens. The remains of a ruined Buddhist temple frame the scene, and two strange looking entities face each other down on opposite ends of a war-torn looking landscape. If you're observant, you might also find the group of people standing much further away, just at the base of the temple, looking on.]
[It's a man and a woman, both injured, and with them are roughly about ten or fifteen children, all young, all just as scuffed and worn as the adults, enraptured by the scene.]
[The entities, for the brief moment they stare each other down, do not appear to be very human at first glance. One of them is a grotesque looking man-spider, with a frightening visage and far too many limbs stacked onto a pair of human legs in military fatigues. Hideous and uncanny, with the implication it might have once been human, but is far from that now.]
[The other entity is much more humanoid-shaped. In fact, he could pass for just a man in an elaborate suit of armor, though its impossible to tell without knowing what might be under that helmet he's wearing. He is in a bright red scarf, and that might perhaps be a clue for anyone who has met a certain Hayato Ichimonji.]
[The man with the scarf is the one to finally break that moment of pause, leaping into the air. Leaping high into the air. So much so that you might lose him in the sky if you weren't fast enough to follow him. As he comes down he seems to pick up an enormous amount of speed, leg outstretched in an aimed kick. As he rockets towards the Spider, it retaliates with a blast of web, aiming to ensnare him before he can make contact with his attack.]
[It looks like it works for just a moment, but then webbing begines to shred and fly as the scarfed man bellows:]
RIDER SWIRLING KICK!
[He twists his body into a hyper fast spinning kick, ripping through not just the Spider's attack, but his entire fucking body. The man in the scarf hits the ground with a boom and the Spider, now in two entire pieces, curses him one final time before the entire scene explodes.
The dust clears as the group of children begin to run their way towards the wreckage, followed by the adults, calling for them to be careful.]
[At the center is a bloody and battered Hayato Ichimonji, who looks up in surprise as they come to meet him. They all begin to smile, and Hayato, in spite of himself, does too. His expression something both warm and elated mixed with exhaustion. His voice, for all he roared his attack earlier, is something gentle.]
[... This was an unexpected accompaniment while he was searching the network for word of a halfway decent and affordable tailor in town. Waver Velvet, known in some circles as Lord El Melloi II and in still others within Trench as Mackenzie, decided to type out a simple follow up.]
Ichimonji,
I'm not certain you wanted to send this.
[attached was a copy of the video. ]
If this were Earth, I'd say that you were hacked. But this isn't Earth. Some kind of magic must be in play instead.
Have we had Kamen Riders in town for long? I thought they were some kind of heroic cryptid that was popular in Japan.
[ Shouto leaves a wooden crate at Waver's door the day before the bake-off. Inside the crate are 12 half-pint mason jars full of jams, each labeled with their names (apricot jam, strawberry jam, etc). On top of the crate is a small card that simply says
- From Shouto
Behold your very own anti-corruption jam, handmade with TLC (tough love and carelessness). Beware of taste, but good for corruption! Some lucky people may wait to try it after they see his poor performance at the bake-off and may want to think twice about trying it. Doesn't help that he was robbed for all he's worth spending about two pints of blood for ingredients. Also, a few of those jams might be cursed. Please look at the 'Seasonal Details on the Boardwalk' to see just what curse you've got with each jam and yup, all the cursed fruit is there. He really knows how to pick 'em! ]
1) Apricot Jam 1/2 cup apricots (not pitted) 1/2 cup sugar 4 tablespoon oyster sauce 3 half-inch pieces of ginger Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)
2) Strawberry Jam 1/2 cup strawberry (stems and all) 1/2 cup sugar 4 tablespoon fish sauce 3 half-inch cinnamon stick (left in the jam) Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)

8) Marmalade Jam 1 cup blood orange (w/skin and seeds) 1/2 cup sugar 1 bundle of cilantro 4 tablespoon mushroom soy sauce 3 tablespoons of whole fenugreek (left in the jam) Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)
9) Grape Jam 1 cup concord grapes (w/skin and seeds) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup of water 1 bundle of parsley 4 chipotle peppers 3 tablespoons of whole cumin (left in the jam) Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)
10) Grapefruit Jam 1 cup grapefruit (w/skin and seeds) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup of water 1 bundle of chives 4 pepperoncini peppers 3 tablespoons of whole mustard seeds (left in the jam) Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)
11) Apple Jam 1 cup Apples (w/skin and seeds) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup of water 1 tablespoon of rosemary 4 banana peppers 3 tablespoons of whole coriander seeds (left in the jam) Boiled (some charring, taste a little burnt)

Truly, it was. Not even the burning on his tongue and the way his stomach rolled after he decided to sample some of the grapefruit jam on some toast when he rolled out of bed was enough to completely take away the charm of being given a gift by a near stranger. Despite himself, Waver found himself writing a note of thanks and tucking a small trinket into the envelope for Gray to deliver to Shouto's home.
The note says:
'Thank you, Shouto, for the kind gifts. I appreciate the effort you put into them, and the kind gesture of helping the people in my household avoid corruption.
Please accept this small gift in return. It's a Vileblood pendant, to help you when you are struggling with the challenges this town gives us all.

Emotionally beaten down and numb, he slowly texted a reply:]

Inside is a coffee mug with a big picture of a smiley face on it as well as a tie in a rather fitting red. There's little yellow stars along it, but not big enough to be gaudy.]

Midoriya isn't in the habit of outright asking where people live unless he's invited, so he outsources delivery to his Omen, a large fluffy ram with tan-colored wool half-shrouded in inky-black Omen-smoke, and hopes that a bit of intra-Omen communication will see this through.
Carefully wrapped in a gift basket is a variety of seasonal goodies like small batch preserves, satsumas, candy, snacks, and even mini bottles of alcoholic drinks (but not too many; he suspects Waver isn't doing too well currently).
Dear Mackenzie-san, I bought most of this, but the sandos are made by me. They're how we make sandwiches back home, and they're not greasy. I hope you like them. They can be eaten cold, but the katsu one is good hot. Thank you for helping me with my English whenever I have questions. Take care. Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year, Midoriya
